Hanakapiʻai Beach

On Kauai's north side, roughly a two mile hike along the 11 mile Kalalau Trail from Ke'e Beach at Haena, involving a fairly strenuous climb, rocks, and often red mud, but magnificent views along the way, lies the secluded little Hanakapiʻai Beach, at the outflow of a fresh water river. At times this river water carves a channel in the sand. The beach water itself has strong undercurrents and people are warned to stay away from it, but the gentle outflow of the river is a pleasing place to cool down. Lava caves are often accessible at the western end of the beach.

A wider view showing the valley above Hanakapiʻai Beach.
