Starry Night

This shot is taken from a similar position and angle to another star trail I posted last year, this time with a wider angle. The pre-dawn glow is barely visible to the right of the image. The north star, Polaris, is near the upper left. Click the image to see more detail.

The crystal clear, windless sky made for crisp air (28°F). It may not be darkest just before the dawn but it is often coldest.

Night sky

In the hour or so just before dawn, this star trail was taken. The Big Dipper is in the center. Polaris, the North Star, is to the upper left. The exposure time was limited to 8 minutes by the equipment I'm using.
This tiny version does not do justice to the image. Click on the image to see a higher resolution rendition.

Half Moon

Early morning on Friday October 13th, this approximately half moon image was shot from Western Washington State.
